If you look and sound like everyone else, you'll vanish in the crowd. Nothing will change - at least not for the better. To cut through, you need to be distinctive. Ordinary won't work.
But you can't just be different for its own sake. Making everyone wear a mask would be distinctive. Painting your building pink would be eye-catching. But superficial differences are exactly that. They don't say anything real about you; they don't last; and they risk damaging what you've already got.
